2023 West Sac Dems Year in Review

This year we accomplished a lot together. Our club focused on bringing in guest speakers and education this year, including:

We held four in-person mixers and get-togethers:

  • an informational spring mixer in March,

  • a summer mixer and drive to collect food for the Yolo Food Bank in July,

  • our fundraiser on the farm in October,

  • and our winter get-together in December.

We helped locally through various community activities including:

  • Assisted the Yolo Democratic Central Committee with their Spring fundraiser that featured guest speaker Julian Castro and put together an excellent club donation basket showcasing local businesses in our city,

  • We spoke up in support of our LGBTQ+ youth when there were anti-LGTBTQ+ comments at our school board, and in support of school board and city resolutions in support of LGBTQ+ causes,

  • We came out numerous times to aid our sister city in Woodland with walking to qualify a recall against a school board member who expressed anti-LGBTQ+ statements and actions- and that effort qualified for the ballot in March,

  • Provided some staffing at the Yolo Central Committee’s Yolo County Fair Booth in August,

  • We had members attend the Democratic Nominating Convention in Sacramento in November with Democrats from actress the state, and

  • Marched in our local Veterans Day Parade in November.

We held our club’s first fundraiser in years in October and it was a wonderful event attended by 89 supporters from across our region and helps support us as we head into an election year.

We held endorsements for two candidates and continue to update and refine our by-laws to best reflect the club.

Finally, we rebranded this year- with feedback from club members at our mixer and the help of a designer we voted on our favorites and approved a new updated logo(s) and name.

We could not have done that without the help, support, and involvement of our members this year, so deepest thank-yous for everyone’s help and support.
